THE Hereford Rail Male Voice Choir is holding its 20th annual concert on April 11 at 7.30pm at Holy Trinity Church, Hereford.

The concert promises to satisfy many musical tastes and provide an enjoyable evening's entertainment for the audience, both regular supporters and those new to the choir. There will be the usual programme of humour, stories and songs together with an appearance from renowned folk singer and raconteur Dick Brice. He is a well-known folk performer, starting his career with the Midlands group The Farriers from the mid 1960s until the early eighties.

Since then he has performed regularly as a solo artist, singing many of his own compositions. One of his songs The Land Between Two Rivers was used as the theme music for the BBC's adaptation of Dennis Potter's book The Changing Forest, broadcast on Radio 4. Dick has performed at the City of London Festival, the Edinburgh Festival and at various venues across Europe. He is better known locally, however, for his entertaining one-man show performed in village halls throughout the county.

The concert will be a mix of musical numbers, traditional and modern, secular and religious, and will appeal to most tastes.

The choir will be introducing some new songs including I Got Plenty of Nuttin from the musical Porgy and Bess, and two moving new numbers If We Only Have Love and Prayer of the Children. The Rail Choir will also sing a medley of First World War songs, specially arranged by Alwyn Humphreys to mark the centenary of the outbreak of that war.

Admission will be £7 by ticket available from members of the choir, from Outback Records on Church Street or on the door on the night.
