ROSS-ON-WYE Rotary is holding spring charity concert in aid of The Marches Family Network at 7.30pm on March 21 at Ross-on-Wye Baptist Church. The concert will feature the Mynyddislwyn Male Choir and the Drybrook and District Ladies Choir.

With the demise of a small local choir, The Wyllie Glee Party, Idris Parfitt formed the Mynyddislwyn Male Choir in 1966. It takes its name from a local ancient parish, with the design of its badge based upon a drawing of the church at Mynyddislwyn. Idris was adamant that there should be a male choir in the Blackwood area of Wales and so advertised his intent to the local people. His campaign received a good response and led to a meeting being held by the interested parties with the choir being formed in April of that year. The choir travels and performs widely, raising money for charitable causes.

The Drybrook and District Ladies Choir are an amateur women's choir who rehearse weekly and regularly perform at concerts throughout the year. They welcome all women, or girls aged 16 or over, with an interest in music and the ability to sing in tune. As well as rehearsing and performing, they also run the annual Margaret Rose Bursary, through which they fund musically talented young people from the local area.

The Marches Family Network is a registered charity that works with and for children and young people with disabilities or additional needs and their families. They offer advocacy and befriending services, inclusive play-care, home visits, newsletters and a toy library in both Herefordshire and South Shropshire.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £10 and are available from Stewart Ross on 01989 750875 and from Nina at Miles Morgan Travel Agents in Ross Town Centre. Please come along and help Ross Rotary support this extremely worthwhile local charity.
