WOMEN from the local Wool Against Weapons campaign gathered in Knighton to make blankets for Syrian refugees from sections of the spectacular seven-mile pink peace scarf. The scarf was used last year to link the nuclear bomb making factories at Aldermaston and Burghfield and draw attention to the government plan to renew the Trident nuclear weapon system at a cost of billions of pounds to UK taxpayers.
The group will also be using sections of the scarf in London on January 24 for a 'Wrap up Trident' event and then travel to Burghfield nuclear weapons factory on March 2 to blockade the construction of new facilities.
Local campaigner Sheila Clarke said: “Eventually all the scarf will be made into useful blankets, some will be given to Knighton Food Bank to distribute to local people who cannot afford to heat their homes adequately."
