THE quiz night organised by the Library User Group attracted over 100 people all keen to help the fundraising effort and lend their support to the new library project in Ledbury.

There were 29 teams drawn from businesses, organisations and societies such as Orme and Slade Solicitors, Utopia Hairdressers, the Market Theatre, the Poetry Festival, the Cricket Club, the Library team as well as many local residents. In addition, raffle prizes were donated by Gaynan Jewellers, Greengrocers, Waller's Butchers, Utopia Hairdressers, and the Cider Shop as well as from individuals.

The evening was a great success with poet Sara-Jane Arbury as the quiz mistress. She had set and read all the questions, kept everyone in order with her whistle, and toted up the scores at the end. Everyone agreed that she had been terrific with a great sense of humour. Out of the 29 teams, the winners were Andrew Warmington, Liz Harvey and Tony Bunting who were presented with the Library Live Quiz Shield and a book token each.

Nina Shield, chairman of the Ledbury Library Development Group explained "We work with the library team and we raise money for things their budget can't quite cover. We've already donated £300 for children's books, we're holding £200 for the digitising project and the quiz was helping to raise £750 for a quick pick shelf unit". At the end of the evening Nina presented Jan Nesaratnam, senior librarian, with a cheque for £300 for audio books. In addition, because of a recent £100 donation, Nina was was able to make a further presentation of £175 for the much needed children's play mat.
