PUPILS and staff at Knighton Primary School raised £107 for the Wales Air Ambulance on the last day of term during their ‘Hats and hAir Day’.

All the children and staff either wore hats, wigs or hair decorations and gave a donation.

During the morning everyone from the school walked to St Edward’s Church for a short service led by the Rev Melia Cope. Children from the school donated food for the food bank and acting headteacher Mary Strong presented lots of guardian angel certificates to children who had been involved in the scheme to help each other sort out any problems they were having in school including bullying.

The Rev Melia and members of Knighton and District Churches Together acted out the story of how Mary and Joseph were told by an angel that they were to have a baby and then how they travelled to Bethlehem where baby Jesus was born in a stable and visited by shepherds. During the event there was a performance by the primary school hand bell ringers led by Roger Thomas and three carols were sung including ‘Silent Night’ with one verse in German, two in English and one in Welsh. The church organ was played by Mary Strong and the Rev Melia said prayers to remember all those children in the world who find it difficult getting an education and are worse off than us at Christmas.
