TREF-Y-CLAWDD Junior rugby club held a cake sale on Brookside Square, Knighton last weekend and raised £217 for club funds.

Club members and their helpers also used the event to promote the free club training/membership for the first term of 2015.

Club numbers have gone down and the junior teams are looking for more boys and girls to join them.

New players are needed for the Under 8s, 10s, 12s and 14s so that the teams can play against other local teams including Builth Wells, Llanidloes and Newtown.

A recent fixture to play against Aberystwyth had to be cancelled because of a lack of players.

Llandrindod Wells Juniors Club are also short of players and have been training alongside Knighton and some joined the Trefy players to boost numbers at a recent fixture. I

f anyone from Knighton, Presteigne or the surrounding villages including those in Shropshire or Herefordshire would like to come and have a go, the training sessions with experienced coaches for the Under 8s to Under 12s are from 6pm til 7pm on Tuesday nights and the older teams train on Thursday evenings at Tref-y-Clawdd Rugby Club field, Station Road, Knighton.

Jane Bywater, mum of one of the players said, “Rugby is not just for boys; my daughter plays and loves it. I would have loved the opportunity when I was younger to be involved in the sport. The youngsters appear to really enjoy the game and it would be great for more players to come forward so they can have the chance to play against other local teams to improve their skills."
