A YOUNG woman from Hereford has been given expert advice from a host of the UK's top female executives at Girlguiding's first ever Camp CEO.

Alice Raven, 16, a Young Leader at the 11th Hereford Brownies, was one of 20 girls mentored by leading female executives during the unique girl-only camp held at Wyboston Lakes, Bedfordshire from October 27 – 31.

The exciting new project, supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery, was launched by Girlguiding to encourage more girls and young women to aim for the top.

According to Girlguiding research, two in three girls aged 11-21 think there are not enough women in leadership positions.

During Camp CEO, Alice was coached by senior female executives on all aspects of careers – from interview and networking skills to overcoming challenges and building confidence.

She was also given one-to-one mentoring by Girlguiding's chief executive, Julie Bentley.

There was also time for the professionals to experience a taste of the Girlguiding adventure – as they joined Alice for adrenalin-fuelled activities such as archery and raft-building.

Alice said: "The highlight of Camp CEO was meeting girls that are as ambitious and passionate about their future as I am. My mentor told me that people will come into your life and open doors for you – and you shouldn't be afraid to walk through those doors."

Alice, who is currently studying at Hereford Sixth Form College, would like to join the RAF as an officer and train to be a pilot.

She said: "I've gained so much through guiding; gone on camps and taught other girls tonnes of things. I'd recommend it to anyone!"

Camp CEO was able to go ahead thanks to a generous boost of £100,000 from the players of People's Postcode Lottery - which supports charities and good causes across Great Britain and globally.

Jo Bucci, managing director of People's Postcode Lottery and Camp CEO mentor, said: "I'm thrilled that players of People's Postcode Lottery have supported this inspiring programme, enabling these ambitious young women to boost their skills and confidence as they take their first steps on the career ladder."
