FRIENDS from many different organisations gathered together at Leadon Bank for a very special ‘posh and dainty tea party’ to remember Margaret Eaton who died in August. Margaret was a well-known figure in Ledbury, tirelessly involved with many good causes, including the Evergreen Club, which she managed for more than 20 years. Formerly a nurse in the Red Cross, Margaret had seen service in the Solomon Islands, Bermuda and always said that her favourite overseas posting was to the Pacific island of Kiribati. Barbara Langlois, who now runs the Evergreen Club said, “Margaret had very high standards and her idea of an afternoon tea was to be served dainty sandwiches with crusts removed, bite-sized meringues, éclairs and other fancies, with pots of tea all served on starched white table cloths, and of course the best china. Margaret was well loved and greatly respected and we shall all mourn her passing.”

More than 60 people enjoyed the event including representatives from Community Action, Evergreen, Marie Curie, Rotary, Harling Court and Leadon Bank. The Rev Howard Mayell had conducted the service of interment of cremated remains in the garden of remembrance at St Michael’s and All Angels Parish Church in Ledbury.
