SEVEN British Telecom managers from around the country joined two of their local colleagues from Madley to volunteer to work for The Cart Shed for two days to create a woodland workshop to be used by vulnerable adults in north Herefordshire.

The Cart Shed received an email from HVOSS earlier in the year saying BT were interested in hearing if there were any organisations in Herefordshire that would be interested in hosting a volunteering day, and asking what that day would involve. The Cart Shed submitted a short proposal and a site visit from Andrew Mainwaring from Madley swiftly followed.

Standing in a boggy wood in the spring of this year, it took a lot of imagination to see what they wanted to create for The Cart Shed – but they were up for the challenge.

In early September 9 volunteers turned up on a gloriously sunny Tuesday morning to join staff and volunteers from The Cart Shed in the creation of a new woodland camp. By the end of the day they had completed the construction and erection of two A frame outdoor workshops. By the end of day two the tree bog was in full operational mode and log store built.

"This has been a fantastic experience for us, and importantly we now have a second functioning site where we can offer therapeutic activities and community courses to vulnerable individuals", said Katie Eastaugh from The Cart Shed.

"It has been a long held ambition to get this site established, but we have not had the resources to do so. We could not have done it without the enthusiasm and generosity of the BT team."

The first courses in the new camp have been run with more to follow throughout the autumn.
