KNIGHTON Show and Carnival 2014 attracted a large amount of people who firstly lined the streets of Knighton to watch the massive mid-day procession led by town crier Derrick Price, Mayor of Knighton Laura Higgins and show chairman Chris Branford. The theme this year was the 1960s so there were plenty of people dressed as hippies, astronauts marking the first moon landing, and TV characters from the Magic Roundabout, the Flintstones, Trumpton, and other TV programmes that started in the 1960s. Other events and attractions on the day included the sheep show re-introduced for the first time since the outbreak of foot and mouth in 2000, the horse and pony show, dog show, axe racing competition, junior football competition, craft and model railway exhibition, and in the main arena Bruce Airhead and his six-foot balloon, and the Mighty Smith a strongman to entertain everyone. In Knighton community there were hundreds of entries in the horticultural section of the show for everyone to admire. In the evening the torch light procession took place followed by fireworks on Bryn-y-Castell.
