DESPITE heavy showers in the morning, the afternoon sun shone brilliantly for the St Mary's Fete, Gladestry.

Mr Roger Williams MP opened proceedings then he and his wife, Penny, had the unenviable task of judging the children's fancy dress, more imaginative than ever this year, and bringing the usual delight to the crowd.

Violet Redfern, aged eight, came first in her age group wearing the Redfern Rocket. Younger brother,

Logan, aged four, also came first in his group sporting a robot outfit.

The refreshment tent buzzed all afternoon and folk sat in the warm sunshine chatting and enjoying their tea, and vicar Rev Mark Beaton, volunteered to have his face painted.

Just under £800 was raised, after expenses. St Mary's Church would like to thank everyone for their support.
