MEMBERS of Knighton Town Silver Band are delighted to announce that Sarah Freeman has been appointed as their musical director. Sarah takes over from Steve Edwards who retired recently.

Sarah started her 'banding' at the age of seven. She gained a place at Wolverhampton University and was awarded an honours degree in music. She is a fully qualified and experienced teacher of brass and has a vast experience as a band conductor and trainer. Sarah has directed both brass and wind bands in the Birmingham and Redditch areas and was fortunate enough to conduct Arrow Valley Brass at Birmingham's Symphony Hall.

Sarah is currently teaching brass in the local schools and colleges and has 100% pass rate in her pupils' examinations. She still travels to Birmingham once a week to continue with her teaching commitments.

Sarah is also MD of Llandrindod Wells Brass Band.

She has been a cornet player in Knighton Band and also its deputy conductor and is enthusiastic and encouraging as a director and trainer.

Sarah hopes to take over the Knighton Training Band on September 2 when it is hoped that all children with instruments and enthusiasm will join Sarah and some willing helpers in the church hall at 6pm. The Training Band has previously been taken by Cath Mellings and the band is very grateful for all the time and effort Cath has put into training the children. With both bands under one baton, the band committee hopes that some continuity can be built into the training to enable a smooth transition from one band to the other.
