IT was win, win for Pembridge based Kingspan Insulation, with the company crowned not once, but twice, in the West Midlands heats of the Chamber Awards 2014.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) Chamber Awards, now in its eleventh year, is a highlight of the business calendar, showcasing the pivotal role local businesses play in the UK's continuing growth story.

Pembridge-based Kingspan won Manufacturer of the Year and also claimed the Sustainability Award.

The company, which is a manufacturer of innovative insulation solutions, was said to have "thrived" in the face of a downturn in the construction sector, largely down to its ability to manage its efficiencies effectively and invest in alternative lines to ensure a stay at the competitive edge of the industry.

Employing approximately 450 people, Kingspan has made a long-standing commitment to sustainability, making it company practice since 2004 that all their activities must be openly reported, meaning that sustainability progress could be tracked with ease.

A decade on, Kingspan now plans to be a zero net energy company within the next two years.

As part of this process Kingspan is developing anaerobic digester plants to supply biogas for combined heat and power plants, ultimately feeding into a 16MW Biomass Power Station.

Company director John Garbutt said he was "ecstatic" at doing the double.

"We were delighted to win the Herefordshire and Worcestershire award for manufacturing as it is always nice to receive recognition for what you do and for the people that make it happen," said Mr Garbutt.

"Winning the regional award, not only for manufacturing, but also for sustainability, is a real validation that what we are doing is worthwhile in both areas," he said.

Kingspan now moves on to the national finals, with the category winners there being announced on Thursday , November 27 at the Tower of London.
