TWO Herefordshire students have been awarded City and Guilds medals for excellence.
Natasha Sowden-Simmonds and Fahra Collins, from Herefordshire College of Technology, are two of 106 students to be selected nationally and internationally in recognition of outstanding work towards their areas of study.
Natasha, studying for a level three City and Guilds qualification in soft furnishings - creative techniques, has demonstrated a real commitment not only with her high standard of work but also travelling to the college all the way from her home in Exeter.
HCT was the closest college offering the specific qualifications she wanted to gain.
Fahra won her award for her superb work while studying for a forestry apprenticeship.
On receiving their awards both students were automatically shortlisted for the City and Guilds national learner awards, The Lion Awards, held at Roundhouse in London.
Although Fahra was unable to attend due to work commitments, Natasha enjoyed an evening of glamour even though she
missed out on one of the 14 Lion Awards.
"I feel ecstatic that everything has been worthwhile. I couldn’t be more pleased," said Natasha. "My husband has been really proud of me too, that I have really applied myself and seen things all the way through. It is a great feeling.”
