Although my blog update hasn't been for a while I am still pursuing my interest in journalism
The next month following my journey to become a journalist. One exam passed, shorthand improving and meeting the Hairy Bikers is just some of the things which has happened.
I became a trainee journalist at the start of September studying at the bottom of the country in a little Cornish town called Pool at Cornwall College.
After our ridiculously long bus journies we arrived at Foz do Iguacu with a sigh of relief and booked into a nice hotel as we had a good excuse as there were no hostels in the town.
On the 30th of June we crossed the border and entered the less travelled land of Bolivia. Our first destination was Copacabana where I met my friend, Barry, from home to make our party a group of four.
We had a bad start in Lima in Peru as we desperately searched for accommodation at 12am. We thought we had booked into a youth hostel but on arrivel they said that there was no room so luckily with the help of a friendly taxi driver we finally found a bed in a nice hotel for £10 a night. It was refreshing to have a nice room to ourselves and moer imoprtantly a hot shower!
After a mammouth and dreary flight we arrived in Santiago, feeling very confused and disorientated as we relived the 5th June because of the time change. My head was mush and I felt so exhausted that I simply fell into bed that night.
My week in Fiji consisted of eating, reading, lying in the sun and eating a little bit more. It was a much needed break (!) after out constant travelling. We flew into Nadi which is an interesting city. IT was very busy, quite dirty and bit smoggy. We found a relatively comfortable hostel, as in the beds were quite clean and we were treated to toast for breakfast. This was all to change though as we paid for an all included package deal and went island hopping in the Yasewa Islands. We cruised to the top of the cluster of islands to a place called Tavewa. We were welcomed with a traditional BULA (welcome) which included dancing and singing and shook all of the staff member´s hands. The staff were so friendly and so happy and really spoiled us. We had not eaten so much food in months.
Our month in Australia has been so varied that there is no lasting image in my head which sums up the place. The past month has flown by and I cannot believe we are half way through.
I was not prepared for the change in temperature as I stepped off the plane in Bangkok on the 28th of February. It was quite a shock to the system as it was so hot and it took a lot longer to get things done. Or so it seemed. Bangkok is a lively and noisy city, if not a little bit dirty, and certainly more chaotic than the Chinese cities we had been to.
Feeling slightly apprehensive and just a little bit queasy I boarded the BA039 flight to Beijing on the 3rd of February to start my "around the world" trip and now the first month of my adventure is almost over.
