Okay, about me (age 54), married for the 2nd time in Jan. 2003 to a lovely British gentleman who wasn't ready to retire so I sold everything, left my adult children and young grandchildren and
moved from sunny Florida to be with him. Our blended family now consists of a total of four children and two grandchildren on two continents.
Since I've not worked outside of the home since our marriage, I've had very little opportunity to make friends. I've got acquaintances, don't get me wrong but deep lasting friendships are what
females really need and I am lacking here in the UK. This lack of friendships is what got me interested in the Red Hat Society, I thought it would be a great way to meet folks.
Adjusting to life in England after 49 years in the USA was a challenge I didn't expect but I have loved most every minute of it.
Hubby retired last summer and we've emigrated to Florida. Hope to continue blogging here for the Times.
It's time again to mention the up coming monthly Red Hat Society meeting. This month we are meeting at 7:00 P.M. at Bunch of Carrots. Our 2nd meeting out in public in our Red Hat garb should display a few new faces thanks to the kind mention and photo printed in this newspaper. In addition our members are starting to tell their friends about us and at least one will be coming along to the next meeting.
Why is it January and February seem to go on forever? I am tired of grey skies, rain, mud, rain, cold. . .did I mention rain? It doesn't help that I had 3 phone calls from the states yesterday telling me that it was 82 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Adding insult to injury is what that is!!!
I am a small town girl. Yes, I’ve lived in Orlando, Florida where the metropolitan area population is about 2 million and growing daily; but in my heart of hearts, I love small town living. However, every once in a while I like to sample the big city life and nothing can compare to London.
I am hoping that you ladies are looking up the Hereford Times blog to see what information you might gather on the Red Hat Society. I've blogged before on the topic but with our group photo in today's (Jan.4th) Times lets me speak again about our little chapter.
I hate making resolutions! I suppose because I always set myself up to fail making unrealistic goals for myself like lose 50 pounds in 3 weeks, okay well maybe not quite that ridiculous but you get my meaning.
I have itchy feet. . .while I said in my last blog that I don't travel much, that didn't mean I don't love travelling. I've been in England for 4 years next month and through a little pushing and prodding have convinced my husband to take me around to see the sights. I think when you live somewhere forever, you take for granted the very things around you that can be interesting.
Sadly, my blogs seem to be less important then the others I read as I don't talk much about current issues or take a stand on 'going green' nor do I do much travelling. Just the same, for as long as I am permitted I will continue blogging. I visit the Hereford Times site often looking for new blogs from my fellow bloggers because I love to read what they have to say.
I've been lucky enough through my recent affiliation with the Red Hat Society and my attempts to get a chapter started here in Hereford to meet some absolutely lovely women. One of them is a published author who makes her home in Leominster.
Does anyone but me miss the magic of Christmas? Once the kiddies are grown and cease believing in Father Christmas, the fun goes out of surprising them because it seems their expectations grow beyond our budgets.
Today I've booked the Pizza Express for our first meeting out in full Red Hat regalia. So far we've got 8 attending and it looks like our little social club is going to take off. We are going to meet on Dec. 12th at 7:00 P.M.
I survived Thanksgiving better this year then any year in the past. That could be a result of not spending the day alone as every other year hubby has been at work.
Thursday this week an American holiday takes place. It’s Thanksgiving. It is always held the fourth Thursday in November. I’ve been told the British equivalent takes place in church and is called the Harvest Festival.
Nearly four years have passed since I arrived in this town and still I walk through certain parts of the city centre and pinch myself because life is so different here from living in Florida.
Ladies!! The first official organisational meeting will take place in my home in Belmont at 2:00 P.M. Thursday the 16th of November. You do not need to come in the Red Hat prescribed garb for this meeting just come. We will be putting our thinking caps on to decide when and where to meet and what type of activities our ladies might like to do.
I had separated from my husband (we will call him ‘the ex’) (remember we are protecting the innocent and not so innocent here) of 25 years in the autumn of 1997. It’s funny (or not so funny depending on how it turns out) how your perspective changes as you grow and mature.
I’m going to tell you a true story. It’s a love story with complications (aren’t they all?) It spans two continents. It’s about how I met a wonderful man through a dating site on the Internet. I will tell you how four years of correspondence resulted in marriage and a life-changing move. I am also going to attempt to tell you of the adjustments my husband, myself and family had to make in order to cope with my new life all the while living in a foreign country. While the country I was about to move to was English speaking, I was going to wonder if I would ever understand the people around me.
I know I just wrote yesterday but I was so excited that I wanted to share with everyone the results so far of the Red Hat Society beginnings. To date, I've had one email and seven phone calls from women who are interested in joining. I am so very pleased with the response and will be planning our first organisational meeting soon.
I am delighted to have been added to the blogging team at the Hereford Times and for my first topic I'd like to tell you about a club that I am working on bringing to Herefordshire women. My efforts to bring this club to Hereford is based on a need that most females have and that is to have close female friendships. Since I don't work away from home, I've found I have a shortage of friends here in England and I am hoping that this club will bring me a friend or two or even a half dozen.
