Grants mean it'll be all light on the nights at Bromyard Rugby Club

Bromyard Rugby Club have finally seen the light – after three years’ hard work.

The club officially switched on their impressive new £150,000 floodlights last Saturday which they hope will increase their already flourishing junior section.

Former chairman Ed Pitt was presented with the Andrew Lamb Memorial Plate for driving the project and steering the fund-raising effort.

Club president Clive Richards presented Pitt with the bi-annual Bromyard Sports Foundation silver salver at a packed vice-presidents’ lunch.

He said: “Ed is a great communicator and, at one time, he was a militant. But he has taken it upon himself to act as a peacemaker. Ed has been a huge masterminding force in the rugby club and we thank himfor his leadership and drive.”

Both of the rugby club’s pitches can now be lit after the floodlights were installed with help from £83,986 from the Rugby Football Union’s capital investment programme and £20,000 from the Sports and Arts Foundation. There were donations, £5,000 from the Clive Richards’ Charity and £2,000 from West Mercia’s Police Fund.

“We can play floodlit matches and have much improved evening training provisions,” said club spokesman Andrew Jelley.

The RFU-regulation floodlights will allow level one matches to be played on the first-team pitch. The club’s second-teampitch will be lit for training purposes but with cables installed for a planned upgrade to match-standard facilities.
