To say I have been lucky with the weather has been an understatement. With forecasts of snow pre-cycle ride I was preparing for the worst - and worried that I would be dreading every moment! Fortunately, since departing Lands End on the weekend the conditions in the South West been very kind, but with the odd light shower (in good old British tradition of course). I have just completed what could be the easiest stretch in terms of ‘flatness’ today, cycling up the familiar A49 to Shrewsbury from Hereford.
The route has taken me to some very scenic spots, in particular the route from Helston through to Wadebridge and Bude, before heading over the old Severn Bridge and down into Tintern and the Wye Valley. My next stop is Bolton where I will be staying with my girlfriend’s parents in preparation for my ascent into Scotland. I fear the roads won’t be as kind and weather somewhat more extreme the further north I venture.
The support so far has been terrific with Amanda, Peter, Tom and friends getting me further coverage through Facebook; and of course those at the Hereford Times whom I met for a quick photo. My thanks must also go to the random guys just north of Penzance who lent me their toolkit when I my bike decided it needed a break; and to Stephen for his continued logistical support.
