SINCE launching the Hereford Times' safer driving campaign I've been more aware of the behaviour of my fellow drivers.
On my way into work I certainly appreciate examples of courteous driving.
For instance, this morning as I made my way through Herefordshire on a long stretch of straight road, a lorry driver kindly re-positioned himself.
This gave me a better view of the road and ensured I could overtake in safety.
After I had made my manoeuvre, I began to question whether it is worth overtaking.
I immediately became stuck behind another lorry and remained so for another 20 miles.
On my approach into Leominster, I realized that the lorry driver who had previously assisted me was right behind me.
I had effectively gained nothing in overtaking either in distance or time.
It made me consider how many overtaking manoeuvres are unnecessary and succeed in only putting the driver, and others, in danger.
