Red Hat Society

By Cindy Read »

I am hoping that you ladies are looking up the Hereford Times blog to see what information you might gather on the Red Hat Society. I've blogged before on the topic but with our group photo in today's (Jan.4th) Times lets me speak again about our little chapter.

The Red Hat Society was founded in America by a woman who hit aged 50 and decided she wasn't going to age gracefully, in fact she decided after reading Jenny Joseph's poem, "Warning, When I am Old" that she was at just the right age to stop worrying about what other people thought about her and have some fun.

And that's just what we do, we get together for a meal at a local restaurant, dressed in our purple garments and red hats and have a good time.

We've got 9 ladies who attend on a regular basis, we've all chosen silly titles for ourselves like The Tzarina and Lady 'Bucket' Ship for example. There is only one rule, be 50 or over and always wear the red hat regalia when going out together. We can accept associate members who haven't quite hit age 50 yet. They are required to wear pink hats and lavendar coloured clothing.

It might be that later we expand our activities to some road trips but for now we are content just getting to know one another.

So if you are game and want to join a fun loving group of ladies who meet once a month, sometimes in the evening and sometimes in the day, contact me at 01432 353171 or via email at red_hat_society_of_hereford@hotmail.co.uk.

If you live in one of the outlying villages and want to start your own chapter, I would be happy to assist in doing so. We've already got a couple people out in Leominster who would like to have a chapter of their own.

Hoping to talk to you soon. Cindi Read
