Preparing for Christmas

Posted on 4:28pm Sunday 10th December 2006

Does anyone but me miss the magic of Christmas? Once the kiddies are grown and cease believing in Father Christmas, the fun goes out of surprising them because it seems their expectations grow beyond our budgets.

More on insulation

Posted on 11:45am Tuesday 5th December 2006

I've been talking about insulation this week, it was sparked off by going to visit some friends who live in a typically ancient Herefordshire home, draughts and all. They had just had some bales of 'thermafleece' delivered, made from 100% British sheepswool.

Posted on 8:31am Monday 27th November 2006

I survived Thanksgiving better this year then any year in the past. That could be a result of not spending the day alone as every other year hubby has been at work.

Posted on 7:37am Wednesday 22nd November 2006

Thursday this week an American holiday takes place. It’s Thanksgiving. It is always held the fourth Thursday in November. I’ve been told the British equivalent takes place in church and is called the Harvest Festival.

Thoughts on living in Hereford

Posted on 10:03am Saturday 18th November 2006

Nearly four years have passed since I arrived in this town and still I walk through certain parts of the city centre and pinch myself because life is so different here from living in Florida.

Expat American in England Continued Part 2

Posted on 9:56am Thursday 9th November 2006

I had separated from my husband (we will call him ‘the ex’) (remember we are protecting the innocent and not so innocent here) of 25 years in the autumn of 1997. It’s funny (or not so funny depending on how it turns out) how your perspective changes as you grow and mature.

Moving from America to England

Posted on 7:31am Monday 6th November 2006

I’m going to tell you a true story. It’s a love story with complications (aren’t they all?) It spans two continents. It’s about how I met a wonderful man through a dating site on the Internet. I will tell you how four years of correspondence resulted in marriage and a life-changing move. I am also going to attempt to tell you of the adjustments my husband, myself and family had to make in order to cope with my new life all the while living in a foreign country. While the country I was about to move to was English speaking, I was going to wonder if I would ever understand the people around me.

Posted on 1:25pm Friday 3rd November 2006

I know I just wrote yesterday but I was so excited that I wanted to share with everyone the results so far of the Red Hat Society beginnings. To date, I've had one email and seven phone calls from women who are interested in joining. I am so very pleased with the response and will be planning our first organisational meeting soon.

Friendship!!

Posted on 3:15pm Thursday 2nd November 2006

I am delighted to have been added to the blogging team at the Hereford Times and for my first topic I'd like to tell you about a club that I am working on bringing to Herefordshire women. My efforts to bring this club to Hereford is based on a need that most females have and that is to have close female friendships. Since I don't work away from home, I've found I have a shortage of friends here in England and I am hoping that this club will bring me a friend or two or even a half dozen.
