Man dies in trench in Wormbridge

A MAN has died in a trench in Herefordshire this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the grounds of a property off the A465 in Wormbridge just after 12.30pm.

They found a man lying at the bottom of the four-metre deep trench in cardiac arrest and immediately performed CPR.

The man had reportedly been carrying out ground work on a building site when his colleagues noticed he was missing.

Due to the man’s critical condition, crews had to improvise to get him out of the trench.

With help from the builders he was lifted out of the trench using a digger and ropes. Once at ground level, crews continued advanced life support in an attempt to resuscitate the man but despite their best efforts, he was confirmed dead at the scene.

What a dreadful tragedy. Sadly, the gallant efforts of the man's colleagues and rescue crews were not rewarded with a positive outcome.
Like many others, my thoughts and condolences are with this man's family and friends.
