Police search riverbank after concern a fisherman might be missing

UPDATE: Fisherman found safe and well

THERE are fears someone may have fallen into the river at Hereford after fishing equipment was found abandoned on a bank.

Police carried out a search of the riverside behind Bartonsham Farm, off Green Street, yesterday afternoon (Thursday) following reports that expensive fishing equipment - set up as if it was in use - had been desserted for more than 24 hours.

The mystery was reported by a member of Hereford and District Angling Association who was concerned that a fisherman might be in trouble.

Chris Ammonds, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said there is no sign of anyone slipping or falling into the water or reports of missing anglers.

He has asked anyone with information - or people who regularly use that spot - to get in touch as soon as possible by calling 101.
