More anger over Next's plan to move out of Hereford city centre

A SECOND firm behind Hereford’s multi-million pound retail quarter has objected to a fashion chain’s proposed city move.

Just days after Old Livestock Market development backers Stanhope voiced disapproval at Next’s bid to move onto Holmer Road, its partners at Hereford Futures have followed suit.

Hereford Futures, which is backing the £90 million Edgar Street complex, says the fashion giant’s planned move from the Maylord shopping centre could affect the “function and vitality of the city centre”.

In a letter to the council’s planning department, the company's Peter Clasby says giving the move the go-ahead would create a precedent to other retailers to trade from the site once Next leaves.

He also says planning control on “out-of-town” sites should be “strictly maintained”.

A decision on whether the move can go ahead should be made this month.
