Routine drug tests introduced at Hereford police station

MANY people arrested in Hereford are now being routinely tested for drugs in a bid to tackle drug-related offending.

The tests carried out at Hereford Police Station for class A drugs, such as cocaine and heroin, for anyone over the age of 18 began yesterday (Monday), after the Drug Testing On Arrest initiative - part of the Drug Intervention Programme - was introduced in Telford in March.

If a test is positive the detainee will attend two meetings with a drugs worker and will receive necessary treatment.

People will only be tested if they are detained under any burglary dwelling offence, all class A drug supply and possession offences and any national trigger offences, which include theft and fraud, as well as any Integrated Offender Management or Prolific and Priority Offender prisoners.

Yes Basil you can. But, if you are blind drunk and out of your mind sucking some opiate I do urge you to drive responsibly. Take your time driving home, obey all the mandatory road signs if you are able to do so and importantly, please consider the other drivers on your route home, who, like you, may be in a similar condition.
Chapter forty in the Highway Code deals with this very issue.

So I can still drive when I'm out of it on Temazepam then?
Because I couldn't before!!
Little swines, I kept dropping them. Then I'd have to do a series of very sharp left-handers to make them roll within my reach.
It was terrible!

Of course I'm joking...

I prefer Crystal Meth!

Clarkester, An excellent choice. I can tell by your writing style its Crystal Meth. Mines Diazepam and a handful of Magic Mushrooms.
Yes, Clarkester, you are clearly a person who is keen to take your medication and drive at the same time as digesting it. Yet another example of being a responsible drunk and drugged driver.
Well done my friend.

The problem with this initiative is its yet another gimmick that takes up the time of the Police, creates another form and procedure to complete and it will create yet more complications within the Criminal Justice system. I also think that the offender may have to give consent because I dont think this test is enshrined within the Police & Criminal Evidence Act.( I may be wrong on this)
The implementation of this scheme will also mean more work which means that the Council, the Police, DASH and the Probation Services will have to employ more people doing something that we can no longer afford to do. We've no money left and we aint in a position to play with gimmicks anymore.
We are where we are. We've got lots of citizens doing opiates and some of them involve themselves in illicit activity. They always have and they always will and theres nothing that these agencies can do that will stop them.
Lets stop lurching from one gimmick to another to pretend that we are addressing the problem. There is no solving this one so lets not employ more public servants to tick boxes and play this game driven by our political leaders who shovel this stuff at us each and every year.

Instead of spending money chasing the users these resources would be better spent get rid of the suppliers. If the truth be known a number of the small time suppliers are already known by the police but they choose to allow them freedom in exchange for the occasional "tip" leading to someone higher up the chain and no matter how many they take out there are usually 2 or 3 waiting to take their place .. this initiative, and I use that word lightly, is a little like bolting the stable door after the horse has left - too little, too late.

Re post from Victim of Police etc. the poster must of been taught English in a different world to me. Never have I read a more garbled, rubbish post which makes no sense.
Hopefully the poster will convert his/ her thoughts into readable English, it will be application . Thank you.
PS the programme being run by he police is well overdue, I really hopes that if the prisoners are found to be taking illegal drugs their Benefits are reduced accordingly - I doubt it therefore the working public are aiding and abetting them by paying taxes etc which goes towards the prisoners Benefits.
