VILLAGE SHOW - The 2012 show was held in the village hall on September 1. The winners of each section were as follows: Cookery, Margaret Milchard; wine, Pat Roche; floral art, Margaret Milchard; handicraft, Margaret Milchard; horticulture, Annie and Keith Mitchel; photography, Kathleen Freeman; art, Kathleen Freeman; creative writing, Margaret Milchard; children under five, Millie Dyer; children under 11, Etienne Woodcock. The Megan Lloyd Trophy donated by Anita Watkins for a single yellow rise was won by Pat Roche. The overall winner with 184 points was Margaret Milchard, 2nd was Kathleen Freeman with 96 points, 3rd were Annie and Keith Mitchel with 82 points.

Thanks to all who participated in the show by entering, helping, stewarding, judging, selling raffle tickets and a huge thank you to all the committee especially Dian Cope who took on the role of chairman this year. Rev Nigella Tyson (ex-rector of Eardisland ) presented the trophies and it was good to see her and her husband again. The total number of entries was up by nearly 50 on last year.

CHILDREN'S ALLOTMENT - At our next session we shall be harvesting the crops which have grown over the summer, filling up the compost heaps, and weighing the giant marrows.

Weather permitting, all children with parents/grandparents in tow are welcome at the allotment. Drink and biscuit provided.

PRIZE BINGO - On Thursday, September 27, at 7.30pm there will be a prize bingo session in the village hall in aid of village hall funds.

Everyone welcome - as would be the donation of some small prizes.

EARDISLAND IN BLOOM - At the Heart of England in Bloom awards presentation held in Birmingham, it was announced that Eardisland in Bloom had been awarded gold for the third consecutive year as well as the title Best Small Village. The award was announced and celebrated with villagers in the White Swan the following evening.

BOWLS - Eardisland Bowling Club visited Presteigne last Saturday but despite a decent performance lost overall, although had one winning rink, Phil Sharp skipping Lynda Lynne, John Hill and Mike Fenn. The Bill Williams Memorial Triples was won by Robing Williams, Jayne Sharp and John Moses, who beat Jonathan Farndon, Tony Stokes and Martin Richards with the last wood of the match. The bowling club held its traditional barbecue on Closing Day, an event which was very well attended.

CRAFT FAIR - Eardisland Community Shop is holding a craft fair in the village hall on October 6, 10am-4pm. Stalls are free to residents of Eardisland - please contact the shop for further details. Free entry on the day.
