St Nicholas by-election (Hereford): It's Our County wins both seats

THE It's Our County group is celebrating after both its candidates came top in Hereford's St Nicholas by-election yesterday.

Anthony Powers 'powered' to victory in the Herefordshire Council poll, while Sue Boulter came top in the Hereford City Council one.

The by-election came about following the death of former Hereford Mayor Julie Wooward last month at the age of 50.

Julie is Sue's sister, but Sue said that, even though she didn't want to fill her shoes, she will be following in her footsteps.

"I am really looking forward to continuing my sister's great community work in the ward," she said.

On his victory, Anthony Powers said: "The big issues on the doorstep were building resilience into Herefordshire's economy, the council administration wasting huge amounts of public money on big projects they cannot deliver, arms length unaccountable organisations running our services for profit and a pragmatic approach to Hereford's congestion."

Hereford City Council Poll Result

Sue Boulter (It's Our County) 725 votes

Anthony Hurds (Liberal Democrat) 220

Jayne Kitchener (Conservative) 188

Come on IOC, put your money where your mouth is and stand up to the Tories! You seem to have lost momentum and are the only real party who can challenge the incumbents.

What rubbish IOC are no different to any of the others . .If you want a council that want Herefordshire to step back in time with no vision for the right investment then IOC are for you . .I really hope I am wrong about them but on present evidence I fear I am not.

And what are the Tory HC doing as of now? Selling our sorry arses down the river to a rich developer and making bad decision after bad decision, that's what. I feel IOC, with the right pressure, could make the difference this County needs.

A good result for IOC and let's hope the tories take on board just how unpopular they are (well, we can hope). Yes, its very long river - or rather, lease - 250 years long - that’s how long they have given the cattle market site away for. Unprecedented, unnecessary, unforgivable.
