Healthy snacks on the A49

LAY-BY snack bars are not renowned for selling healthy foods.
But one on the A49 between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye is trying to buck the trend and move away from the greasy spoon image.
The As You Like It mobile café, situated at Callow Hill, is the first participant in Herefordshire Council ’s Tucker Trucker scheme.
The aim of the project is to get people making healthier choices when they stop for a snack.
“Giving customers healthy eating opportunities has really paid off,” said owner Amanda Kendrick.
“By marketing these changes, I’ve seen more people stopping and buying products.”
There are no chips on the menu and nothing is deep fat fried.
In addition there are low fat sauces and mayonnaise, fruit is on offer where chocolate used to be, and wholemeal bread options are available.
