Tyrrells plan to reduce crisps smell
10:00am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in News
HEREFORDSHIRE crisps maker Tyrrells wants to build an 80-foot high chimney to help reduce odours given off during production.
Tyrrells, based at Stretford Bridge, near Leominster , says the 26- metre ‘stack’ is needed to reduce smells given off during potato frying.
If permission be granted it will be sited on hardstanding close to other buildings.
Tyrrells says nearby trees will screen “at least the lower section” of the stack with all but the top couple of metres being out of sight of many vantage points.
The company has made a name for itself in recent years with its products now sold across the country, including Harrods department store in London and in shops in New York.
In July, Herefordshire Council’s planning committee deferred a decision on granting the company permission to use a former on-site office and storage site to launch a popcorn venture.
The firm’s operations director Richard Worrall told councillors it would be a “very, very small extension of our facilities”.
