Herefordshire's broadband supplier talks enter final stages
9:11am Friday 14th September 2012 in News
HEREFORDSHIRE Council has agreed to enter “final negotiations” with a broadband supplier in a bid to boost coverage across the county.
But despite yesterday’s cabinet agreement, which authority bosses hope will rid Herefordshire of its chronic internet access problems, the public are still no closer to finding out who the provider
is.
Contract details were discussed by members in private session before agreement was taken for the council to pledge a further £4.1 million to the project to match funding by BDUK (Broadband Delivery UK).
Herefordshire was one of four areas chosen for the scheme - known as the Borders Broadband project - which is a pilot aimed at addressing coverage in remote rural areas.
Councillor Graham Powell, who has spearheaded the project, said: “The solution that we deliver today has to be a network that will stand the test of time.
“Herefordshire is the most difficult place in the country to deliver this.”

In our opinion there is only one possible contender capable of providing this service. If we are wrong we will be astonished!

I'm guessing you are sniffing round the honey pot trying to get the MONEY.
If you do manage to get your hungry paws on our cash try and give us value for money.
My warmest regards to you.

I just feel that only one company is likely to have the resources to handle this project - but we shall see soon I guess.
What we find frustrating is that so much of Herefordshire can get no ADSL at all whilst BT advertise their new Infinity as being even faster!
If everyone in Hereford were able to get 2Mg it would be a big improvement, as this is still out of reach for many of our clients due to the quality of their telephone lines. Indeed I know of many people who can get no service at all except satellite. Mad when you consider that the Government insists that some business records must be submitted online!
Let's hope that the project does deliver - if so, I think that Jesse Norman's support should be appreciated as he has worked hard for Herefordshire since he was elected as MP for South Hereford.
