Walk to raise awareness of brave Louie's rare condition
THE MOTHER of a seven-year-old boy who has already undergone three heart operations is hoping a charity trek will raise awareness of his rare condition.
Louie Broome was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) – a condition meaning the left side of his heart does not work.
Only 200 people across the UK are diagnosed with the rare condition each year but Louie’s uncle, Paul Richards, hopes to raise awareness by walking along Hadrian’s Wall with three friends in three days.
Money raised from the trip will go towards Little Hearts Matter (LHM), a charity helping those diagnosed with HLHS.
Louie’s mother Abigail, who lives in Hereford, said she felt frightened and alone when she discovered how rare and serious the condition is, and that is why she feels so grateful to the charity now.
Louie, who attends Hampton Dene Primary School, will face more treatment, in the future but gets a lot of love and support from his four-year-old brother Jai.
Paul's walk starts on October 13 from Bowness on Solway.
