Have your say on potholes, car parking and countryside buses

PLANS to shake up city centre car parking, introduce 20mph zones, fix potholes and change countryside bus services will start taking shape when Herefordshire Council holds public meetings.

The council is holding ‘information events’ around Herefordshire as part of its Local Transport Plan consultation, starting in High Town, Hereford, on September 29.

There will also be events in Ross -on-Wye, Ledbury , Ewyas Harold , Leintwardine , Dorstone, Weobley , Shobdon , Bromyard , Kington , and Leominster , ending in Hereford on October 17.

See herefordshire.gov.uk for details or to take part online.

Here's my say, there are too many potholes. Carparking is too expensive. Any local buses should be cheaper and more frequent.
Is there anything else to add? Is there a need for a meeting....

I agree with Louis.
Herefordshire is the WORST for potholes and as for the holes 'fixed' these seem to be a 'make do' approach which is simply in my eyes LAZY.

People would be encouraged more to use the bus services if they were more frequent, less expensive and weren't full of drunk dolers going to weatherspoons.

We have no need to worry about pot holes, parking of even bus routing ,unless of course you are driven to purchase something from a Charity shop or you want to buy illicit tobacco and alcohol from one of our few areas of commerce that are prospering.
Let the pot holes stay, there's no need for people to clamber on a bus to nowhere and why would you want to park in a place that has nothing to offer and if you find some small thing that does interest you, chances are you'll be administered a parking ticket by one of our sixty Parking Enforcement Officers who must scalp at least forty of us each and every day of our week.
Stay indoors. It makes sense.

This is a scam They are really deciding behind closed doors at the same time as they decide who is going to be chef whip for the council. they do not care about pot holes the only thing they want to fill is there pockets.

The entrance to properties off Grandstand Road towards Chave Court Close goes to Chave Court, Kingdom Hall, Wesfields Football Ground, The Lads Club, and ironicly to Moor House and Widemarsh Workshops which are Hereford Council Offices. The entrance off Grandsatand Road is like a bomb crater. 2 years ago I rang and complained about the pot holes and to be fair they were filled in with tumps of tarmac, which were like mole hills and now it is as rough as the surface of the moon. Does no one from the above council offices not notice when they drive through it?
The road that runs alongside Newtown Road towards the shambles which was the Sportsman owned by a local scrap dealer (property developer, that's a laugh!) was beautifully tarmaced all the way to the Lads Club and beyond but falling short of Chave Court Close and the above mentioned properties. There is a barrier just beyond the tip so vehicles cannot proceed along any further than what was the Sportsman Pub. I guess the owner of the mess is laughing that he has a nice road to gain access to his property.
So why was the tarmacking cut short and not continued through to Grandstand Road? Do we know whether Westfields FC should have contributed in the plans for their new football ground. Do the Council workers not notice how rough it is? Whoever put the new tarmac down did they have their map upside down and should have done it from the Grandstand Road end, because as I say what has been done only benefits the owner of the tip which was once the Sportsman Pub.
Answers please if there is anyone from the Council reading this

What about a meeting to discuss the future of Hereford??

If the car parking was more affordable perhaps people wouldn't park on that long sweeping bend between Moreland Ave and Admirals Close on Penn Grove Road. There's a near miss there most days. The cars aren't in the bays on the safer stretch nearer Aylestone Hill as it's a 'resident' zone. The zone that is always empty as residents have their own drives.

60 enforcement officers lol try 12 and 4 are part time, Plus moan about parking charges all you like but the going private soon to someone like ncp so make the most of the cheap car parks now cause parking will rise and so will penalty charges.

If you don't want a parking ticket don't park somewhere you shouldn't and don't be late back to your car if you've paid for a certain amount of time. It's pretty simple really. There do tend to be signs explaining the parking rules. Read them.

And to be honest, I have always parked in Castle Street because let's face it, you don't even need two hours to 'shop' in Hereford.

I do think the buses need to be cheaper and more frequent, and the pothole situation is the same in most towns. Living in High Wycombe at the moment and it's pretty rubbish here too.

BillyB83, This is no place for you to be. I don't want you to tell me there's less than sixty enforcement staff. I want you to say I have it completely wrong and there are hundreds of them.
This is not a place to present accurate facts. For me, I want to be told lies which my biased mind can quickly process and then blow out of proportion creating in my deranged mind a belief that Hereford is in ruin and it's all the fault of the Council.
Please, from hereon, refrain from any common sense and fact based argument.
My warmest regards to you.

Note how they are not going to bes discussing the real issues! Yes, what's described above is important but I think there are more pressing things to be discussed about the future of Hereford. For example, why they keep insisting on having secret meetings; what the relationship is between them, Hereford Futures and Stanhope; what the REAL timescales are for the OLM; why they are cutting public services and many more.

I'm assuming if we go there and ask probing questions, we'll be met with silence.

well for one im a civil enforcement officer so i know the facts abit better than you regarding parking but you want truth, i can tell you that we are goin private within 18 months and ncp are likely to take over so car parks will rise considerably and pcn charges will double, they will more than likely be 24/7 365 days a year so no free bank holiday parking, so we will now have to work them what we dont wanna do i can assure you. We will know more bout that in march when the council board decide to meet no doubt be a secret one and we will get the basic info.

Good for you kiddo. You have more courage than the Parasites, Leeches, Fleas and Tics who employ you.
My very best wishes to you in your future employment.

TwoWheelsGood says...

They'll be finishing the lift and marbled lobby just as the rest of it falls down - that £1m of structural repairs ain't going to go away any time soon ... perhaps they're hanging on until they can foist it onto NCP for a quid.

well we only do a job and we are monitored on everything we do our radio goes out of reception our gps dont work there onto us like leeches wondering where we are, its like being at school, but if we privatise there wont be many of us left i know that as it will be all about making money and in my opinion no one will win an appeal cause they care about figures and making money.

Some potholes are so deep I am thinking of using them for climbing practice before embarking on tougher challenges in the Brecon Beacons.

I agree with Gillian 1961. Why spend money repairing roads that cause damage to all vehicles, bikes and are dangerous to pedestrians? Surely it is much better to provide new signs that welcome people to our county? The picture of Councillor Jarvis (page 17 today's HT) in front of the new (and expensive signs!) speaks volumes about the council's priorities.

Maybe we need a pothole 'Tsar'.

I'm sure the Council could manhunt such a specialist.

If it costs only £90,000 to get a PR firm to find a Chief Executive, then the rate for a Tsar is probably only £50k.

Plus, give him bonuses for every new pothole discovered.

How about getting the public to identify with their shiny smart phones where all the new potholes are (could give the people something worthwhile to do at weekends).

Schools could produce drawings of the best ones, maybe submit them to the 'Countryfile' calendar.

The possibilities are endless.

Use your imagination!

A pothole Tsar is a fabulous idea.
He/She could begin by declaring a "war on potholes".
Some of the high profile potholes would be repaired and he would declare victory, perhaps on an aircraft carrier.

TwoWheelsGood says...

Surely a high profile pothole is an oxymoron?

Hereford Common Sense says...

Herefordshire roads are some of the worst in the UK for potholes. Car parking us inadequate and possibly overpriced and should be reviewed. Perhaps hospital car park charges can be reviewed at the same time. Bus services are irregular and use substandard vehicles in comparison to other areas.

Is a meeting to discuss the obvious really required? What is needed is a meeting to discuss an action plan to resolve these things. Or is that 6 meetings down the line?

richybeaver says...
3:35pm Sat 15 Sep 12

It's obvious really: cut all rural bus services, which will then help preserve the road surface.

Simples!
