Council chief debate to be held in secret

Herefordshire Council's employment panel meets in secret next Thursday to debate the latest developments in the search for a new chief executive or similar senior management position.

The council says the meeting has to go behind closed doors because it is "likely to reveal the identity of an individual."

Current chief executive Chris Bull leaves the council next month.

The employment panel last month put off the search for a successor so other senior management models could be explored.

So, we aint telling you our secrets because we dont want our applicants identified.
Sweet Loving Jesus, what do this Council think we are going to do if we discover their secrets. We aint going to harm the applicants.
None of their activities are a secret to us plebs. We know that this Local Authority are self serving, bloated, arrogant, wealth and job creators for themselves. This aint no secret and it's clearly no secret that another one is coming in to fatten up the payroll.
We in Hereford are doomed. We stumble from one smelly cow pat to another and all is falling apart around us.
The successful applicant will be a person who loves a meeting and speaks in a strange language that only the hirearchy can understand, he or she will be more than happy to work from home, they'll love fine wines and be able to talk endlessly about the subject and they'll have a degree in some obscure subject that will be meaningless to their role but will look impressive on their fat cv.
Tell you what!, when the Council tell the successful applicant, the jobs theirs, keep the salary a secret from them. Dont tell them what they will get in their paypacket. We'll soon see who really wants the job and who wants to help this City get on its feet again.

Common Purpose members looking after each other using our money - this Council have paid over tens of thousands of pounds to this secret society for employer 'training' - makes Labour's social engineering look like a kindergarten.

Actually, I made a silly light hearted remark earlier and I was wrong. This is to serious.TwoWheelsGoo
d has touched upon this Social Engineering that we've all been subjected to during the past few Labour Governments. It really has some relevance to the 'now' and the predicament we find ourselves in today. We have no say. They dont listen. We used to be a nation of protestors and we'd openly question issues without fear of being branded some sort of corporate terrorist. Nowadays, we simply take it on the chin, perhaps moan a little and not give the issue a backwards glance.
This arrogance that our Council leaders show toward us is something that we shouldn't just take like some bitter medicine. We've got to rediscover our ability to organise, break cover and protest about this form of illicit behaviour by the Local Authority.
How dare they take this step and then have the neck to tell us that we cannot be involved, its their bloody secret and they know whats best for us.
Parasites, Leeches and Maggots the lot of them. They eat away at our money and asset strip us to the bone. Their crazy, badly thought out decisions are the schemes of incompetetent bungling idiots.

Come on lads and lass'es, I promise you that these Council people will read Bill Tanner's piece and they will read our comments. Their ego's are far to big and inflated for them to ignore reading about themselves. They love it.
Tell them what you think. They wont take any notice of us but they will realise that their bubble is soon to burst.
Come on. Comment. Do it and do it now for yourselves.
My warmest regards to you all.

Allowances and expenses paid to councillors are available on the Herefordshire Council website. Presently: £7244 per year basic.
For a list of all allowances paid by UK councils see the website of the Taxpayers' Alliance.
Most Welsh councils, for example, receive more than £13,000 basic allowance. Powys is an exception - just £11,925 - Monmouthshire £13,638.
Nice work, if you can get elected!

What also amazes me is that HCC are currently running a consultation on council tax benefit where they are looking to fleece the most needy yet again, perhaps all those Councillors who are paid above £20k should take a 10% pay cut and put that money towards the benefit hole and it would also bring them more into line with the average wage of Herefordshire of £19k per year, or even better cut the £1.3Mill they say they need from the folly that is ESD. One piece of good news though Bill Wiggins is no longer a whip and with any luck at the next election he won't even be an MP.

8:50pm Sat 8 Sep 12

Bobby old pal, I apologise for my lack of input on this debate. I've been somewhat preoccupied in finding a copy of your book about Studmarsh but have as yet, failed to do so.

I hear your call to arms and agree that we as honest, hardworking Herefordians need to challenge the poor behaviour displayed by our council. They will as you rightly point out, read these stories and threads to fuel their egos.

Why do they keep insisting on secret meetings for important decisions that may shape the future? Why can't there be honesty and transparency? This is the fourth 'secret meeting' publicised on this site in as many months. Something doesn't quite meet the eye.

But what can we do to stop them? We voted them in (well I certainly didn't - I voted IOC which in hindsight was a wasted vote it seems). The only way we can stop them is to vote with our feet next election. And I guarantee most won't.

I really hope, for the future of this county, that HC start engaging those who pay their wages, that they start listening to us, that they become transparent and open and that they realise it's US they are meant to be serving not themselves.

I'm about to give up. Lend us a spade and I'll come and help you dig for Studmarsh.

3:29pm Sun 9 Sep 12

Glad your back Lukio. Well done. Forget Digging for Studmarsh in the Wrong Place. Truthfully it's a poor read.
I actually bumped into a local elected councillor recently and he said he had to go. Couldn't chat. He was off to CABINET.
Off to cabinet! I wanted to stab him in the eye with a soft leaded pencil. The arrogance of these fleas. How did we all arrive at a point where they can get elected, get a salary, get expenses, get on one or two other forums to boost their wage and then slip away with twenty K a year.
Its a disgrace . Off to Cabinet. The arrogance of these parasites.

Lukio says...
6:14pm Sun 9 Sep 12

I think we should rally the troops and stand next election! Let's create our own party to challenge the incumbent leeches. They need a clear message that us Herefordians won't put up with their wasting public money, nonsensical decisions and general uselessness. Sometimes I think 'you can't fight the system' and if you can't beat em, join em. They'll get re-elected next time round - there's lots of rich Tory farmers in this county ;)

I'm not unreasonable. If these Parasites do well and they create a better future for our kids, then reward them. Give them a bag of sprouts or a bag of scratchings. But, if they displease us, then they should be punished. BUT NOT IN SECRET.
When they come out of CABINET, drag them into High Town before the screaming mob and ask the local Constable to Tazer them simply for our pleasure.
All done with openness and transparency.
Make them do jobs in the community. Weeding, ridding us of wasp nests, mowing the grass and cutting the toe nails of the elderly. Working in the community and with the community for a better future in our great City.
I have a dream that this can happen.
To all you Parasites, Leeches and Tics that I know are reading our negative and yes, hateful comments about you, repent and change your ways.

Gillian 1961. Sorry to hear that both you and partner lost your jobs last Christmas - life can be very unfair.
The figure I quoted was the basic allowance available for a Herefordshire councillor - £7,244. This was for the 2011-12 tax year. The only person who served a complete year and did not take any extra for travel, subsistence and for a post of responsibility was Councillor J Woodward who received the £7,244 allowance only.
However, 4 councillors received the following totals: J.Jarvis £41,787; R. Phillips £30,088; A Blackshaw £21,694; P.Price £20,918.
Hope you and your partner join the Taxpayers' Alliance and see just how much money is being wasted at a time of great economic difficulty. Good luck.

Good luck in the interview Gillian 1961.
By the way you were right about one councillor receiving vast amounts per year. Over the past 5 years Cllr. Phillips has received: £46,246; £44,246; £44,492; £52,675; £47,650; £30,088.
Our councillors alone cost us £679,356 last year.

Again, very good luck for the future.

Who's for dragging them squeeling from Cabinet into High Town in front of the frenzied mob and make them return all our money so that it can all be spent on good things. Things that are good and well meaning and are not used to fatten up the self serving bloated, fat few that eat away at our wealth and the once strong fabric of our society.

Bobby 47 - Hi. The figures I quoted are all from the Herefordshire Council website. Last year we paid our councillors the magnificent total of £679,356 for their basic allowances, special responsibility allowances and expenses. I notice that Cllr Blackshaw has put himself forward as the Conservative candidate for the role of the West Mercia Police Commissioner at the election in November. The salary for the post is £100000 per year plus, dare I say, expenses .
Re Bobby47 comments that none of the cabinet members or fellow councillors have replied to this forum would suggest that they agree with what has been said or they are unable to defend the indefensible. I also believe that the silent majority of this fine City agree with the posts.

bobby47 says...
2:51pm Wed 12 Sep 12

Ubique5740 and Gillian 1961 have pushed me to far and if there's two things I hate, It's pushers and Councillors.
Comrades. Authors and Readers of tripe and drivel, I made my decision.
Enough is enough and talk is cheap.
I'm going covert and my intention is to enter the premises of this secret meeting, keep me head down as they count their money and make their incompetent decisions and then I'm going to reveal myself.
I'm going to make our demands. One, to have the right to jump from any public building of our choosing.
Two, to highlight the desperate plight faced daily by all those kneading dough day in and day out. Three The right to dig for Studmarsh wherever we choose and be allowed to do that digging without some jobsworthy shouting, Clear off you idiot. You'll not find Studmarsh here and finally and perhaps most importantly, I will demand that they end our misery and jump off the top of the Town Hall.
And Comrades, I will not sell you down the river. If there's three things that I hate it's Councillors, Pushers and people who sell people down the river.
Now all I need to know is when and where this meeting is.

Not wanting to start anything here, but do any of you actually think any further than Hereford City, there are other towns in the county who get hit just as hard by the stupidity of the council.
I live in Ledbury and as it stands now we have lost the ambulance station, the police station looks set to close, the swimming pool needs around £1 mil to repair its roof, HCC are cutting youth funding by 80% which will mean the closure of our youth centre. Out Town Council are basically being forced to take over verge cutting, public toilets and a number of public buildings .. all of which are loss makers for HCC, when the Town Council requested the ability to run and profit from the town carparks they were told no, so our Town council will have to find a huge sum of money to fund the services being foisted onto them by HCC, add to that this bloody stupid council tax reform policy and many in Ledbury will see their council tax bill rise by quite an amount next year .. It isn't just Hereford who are being fleeced by these Councillors, its the whole of the county.
