What was mysterious light and sound in the skies over Herefordshire?

VISITORS from another galaxy may have visited Herefordshire over the bank holiday weekend – but they didn’t hang around long.

A number of readers reported a mysterious explosion of light and sound in various parts of the county on Monday night.

A flash of light moving quickly and a distant explosion were seen and heard following what appears to have been a meteor shower.

“It happened just overhead and only lasted about five seconds,” said John Price, who lives near Kingsland .

“It was a blueish-white sphere, about the size of a football, and was quite low in the sky.”

John said the boom of light spooked horses in a nearby field before the mysterious sight disappeared in the direction of Leominster .

“It gave off a fierce glow but there was no sound whatsoever. It’s something I’ve never seen before.”

But elsewhere in Herefordshire, close to Bromyard , one resident reported hearing a large bang.

Bishops Frome’s Rhondda Harper said she was reading in bed when she heard what sounded like an explosion a long way away. She contacted our sister paper the South Wales Argus, which had run a story about a ‘big bang’ being heard in Cwmbran.

Max Salsbury, from Withington, also heard the bang which he thought was a huge gas explosion.

“It alarmed all the pheasants and dogs nearby and shook my house,” he said.

“Unfortunately I did not see anything but it made quite a noise.”

Elsewhere, BBC Radio Five Live reported sightings in the north west of England and north Wales.

A meteor shower occurs when thousands of tiny particles of debris enter the Earth’s atmosphere and almost immediately burn up, creating a short glow in the sky.

Just before 23.30 last night (Thursday 30th Aug) My sister and I saw a large glowing orange object hurtling through the clear night sky, the meteor had a white trail and was breaking up into smaller glowing pieces as it traveled. It lasted about 10 seconds before it went out of sight. I have seen shooting stars before but nothing like this, it was quite a sight.

I'm not at all suprised that beings from another planet have visited us. Half of Eastern Europe thinks its a wonderful place to visit as well.
That said, has anyone considered this might, and I'm only saying 'might', be a Lightening storm.

I studied Ufology for quite some time. Depending on it's speed - the one description is indicative of "ball lightning", which wouldn't be uncommon given the recent storms we've had. However, it is more likely to be remnants of part of the Perseid meteor shower that went past a couple of weeks ago.

The power went out and the house shook as this huge thunder like sound crunched down on us, I thought it sounded like a jet plane crashing down. There was no warning, no build-up, just a huge bang. It also sounded like we had been hit by thunder and we had to go outside, in the extreme downpour, to check the roof was still on.
Until now we have just passed it off as thunder, but this news report seems to suggest there was no thunder recorded, so what was it? =/

I'm not trying to alarm anybody but, these events could be a terrible foretelling of foreboding things that might come to pass, may come to pass or most definitely wont ever come to pass.
I've been flicking through the Book of Revelations and it aint good reading. 'There will be a mighty glow of light in the night sky and there will be a loud cracking of thunder, the Wye and the Lugg may or may not flood and the Lord will summon up a mighty wind and blow all the trees down. Those who aint under the trees and thus, wont be crushed to death, will lift up there heads and cry, Hoorah! coal in fifteen million years time'.
Without drawing attention to yourselves, get yourself down to Widemarsh Common Sunday evening and in a state of nakedness, slaughter and sacrifice a Razorback Suckling Sow.
Of course you could just ignore this tripe and get on with your lives.

Airforce 1 has summed it all up. Give us an answer. Its the least we deserve. With all this doubt hanging around, what are we to believe? Someone knows something about these omens and signs. Tell us NOW

Clarkester says...

I used to know the answer.
Or at least I think I did.
But then I forgot what the question was.
Now all I know is random answers to the wrong questions...
I hope this helps.

Once again, Clarkester has summed it up in one single paragraph of complete rubbish. Its rubbish like this and my endless drivel about signs and omens and the sacrificing of a member of the animal kingdom, namely a Razorback Suckling Sow that confirms that Biomech and Airforce 1 are the only sane people commenting upon this piece of news.

Jesus wept. It's like living in the dark ages, living in Hereford. Aliens? Explosions? Meteor showers? What a load of drivel. It was lightning. Pure and simple. It earthed in the Credenhill/West Hereford area. The storm preceded down toward South Wales and burnt itself out.

By the way, for those who cannot distinguish the difference between the two, Thunder is the byproduct of Lightning. You are not "hit by thunder" it is an audio only phenomenon.

Now stop throwing rocks at the moon.

Lambda Tatter has said what needed to be said a long time ago. This talk of omens, drivel, signs and talk of what could it have been that filled us with fear and dread has to stop.
Widemarsh Common is off. I'm not getting involved in this debauchery in a public place. Plus, I cant get my hands on a Razorback Suckling Sow.

airforce 1 says...
9:44pm Thu 6 Sep 12

Lambda Tatter has no idea, what we are talking about is a huge BOOM that was heard all across Herefordshire, Gloucestershire,Wale
s,the Midlands and the north of England at the same time,so if this happened just in Credenhill how do you explain that, and if the electric did go down around this area, where is the explanation from the electric company, the Hereford times, the government, its a cover up, that's what. And,Lambda Tatter, those who take the Lord thy Gods name in vane may hear another loud BOOM.

Airforce 1 has hit the nail on the head. He's basically saying that this is the Lords work and we are back to dealing with omens, signs, drivel and rubbish.

I would just like to update: the incident that I described happened on Friday 24th August.

Also, when I said that it sounded like we had been hit by thunder, it was an instant bang as the noise happened (like a jet plane crash), I didn't say it was thunder.
