Clanfield 3 Pegasus Juniors 5 PEGASUS are through to the second round of the HPL Hellenic Floodlit Cup after beating lower- graded Clanfield in the first round in midweek.
After taking a single goal lead in the first half, Pegasus were firmly in control at 5-1 in the second, before conceding two late goals to take the gloss off the fine performance. Unusually, the goals were scored by eight different players.
After weathering an early spell of pressure from the home side Mark Smith put Pegasus in front with a header from a Liam Jones cross. The home team pushed forward but the best effort still fell to Dave Griffiths whose shot was saved.
Rob Laurie extended the lead three minutes after the interval, but John Andrews, who was a threat all night, pegged them back five minutes later.
The flurry of goals continued - David Griffiths cut inside to shoot home from 20 yards and Rob Aldrich planted in number four after good build-up play between Chris Mortlock and Jones. Mortlock added a fifth when he latched on to a weak clearance from the home keeper and side-footed home from 30 yards. Clanfield netted two late consolation goals.
