Another step closer to superfast broadband in Herefordshire

THE company which will run Herefordshire's superfast broadband network will be named next month.

Herefordshire Council ’s cabinet will meet on September 13 to award a contract that kick-starts the much-needed network.

The Borders Broadband project needs a telecommunications company to design, build and operate a wholesale broadband network in those parts of the county that don’t – or won’t – receive commercial investment.

Broadband speeds in Herefordshire are among the worst in the UK and the county is recognised as one of the most difficult areas in the UK to implement fibre connections and superfast broadband from a geographical and technological standpoint

Already, county company Allpay is buying into the “hard to reach” market parish-by-parish with a successful and highly innovative wireless network of its own using church steeples as transmitters.

If you can lay a fibre optic cable across the Atlantic Ocean the problems facing Herefordshire must be minor. Perhaps those who think this should take a look at Superfast Cornwall.

What about the parts of the County that some Consultant has decided that they are commercially viable - but nothing is planned for delivery. Tavistock is an example of this and there must be Towns in your County as well. Please read the small print in any BDUK delivery plan.
