New chief executive for Herefordshire Council will cost thousands

AROUND £90,000 is what it takes to find Herefordshire Council a new chief executive.

The council’s employment panel meets next Monday (August 13) to approve the recruitment spend and the £140,000-£145,000 salary for the successful applicant.

Hoople, the council’s “partner company” gets to manage the recruitment and selection process.

Current chief executive Chris Bull is standing down in September.

I used to believe what was printed in the HT but I am not so sure now!!

I'm unfortunately not surprised ... But clearly an outrageous sum of money to spend merely scratching about looking for someone to hire ... And is that £145,000 salary inflated even further with pension contributions?

I think people fail to understand that this person will oversee a budget of millions of pounds and hundreds of staff.

People who have the skill to do this cost lots, otherwise you end up with a monkey who knows squat !

To be honest we already have a monkey who knows squat and paid more than the Prime Minister! He has overseen the departure of a huge amount of his responsibilities - has he taken a pay cut to reflect this reduction in accountability since the transfer of services to Hoople, the Wye Valley Trust and 2gether? Has he heck as like.

As a ratepayer I would like confirmation that this represents value for money as it is my belief that an independent organisation would cost about 40/50k for the same service. Did HC shop around before giving the contract to Hoople? Are HC the major shareholder of Hoople anyway? No quibble with the salary and responsibilities just the recruitment process.

I'll be chief of council half the money. Herefordshire is a joke and be some muppet from another town who knows diddly squat about our town.

It would be less expensive to appoint from within the council. In the past, in so many different sectors, deputies were looked upon as people capable of stepping in to the role above them. If the training was rigorous, such deputies would have the acumen to fill the vacant role in an authority they already knew and had great knowledge of the strategic planning they had been involved with.

Fools all of you. So negative! We need a new Chief Executive and we need to pay this person handsomely to govern and coordinate our vast, bloated, wealth and job creation scheme we warmly refer to as our Council. More of it I say. The sooner he, she or it is installed the better as far as I'm concerned. For my part, if it needs more money to tempt this person to lead us toward the abyss then I'd gladly drag my bin myself down the straight mile to the tip and save the Council money to secure the services of this individual who will surely have a degree in Business Management and a keen interest in fine wines and working from home.

The potential cost of the recruitment process, including using external consultants, is outlined in recommendations to the council's recruitment panel on Monday. If you had bothered to read the article in the Hereford Times, Ubique5740, you would know that's where the figure comes from, not just off the top of somebody's head.

Not sure why the HT only provides some articles in full ... would save confusion, but is obviously for pure money making purposes.

Anyway its my understanding that that would be the maximum cost rather than the actual cost. and could be a lot lower

Will this one live in London too ? Or in one of the other far flung locations most of the Herefordshire Council senior staff seem to live these days ?
