GULLS have once again proved to be a nuisance for Hereford businesses.

Firms on the Burcott Business Park have been left with a big cleaning bill after dozens of the birds nested on rooftops and left their droppings on cars below.

The Hereford Times reported in May that Herefordshire Council will tackle the problem head-on by going after nests and eggs to keep the gulls from coming back in their breeding season.

The campaign is to run throughout the summer and aims to reduce the number of gulls in the city, currently estimated at 500 breeding pairs.

The news could not come at a better time for Clive Rogers, from the car parts company, Ace Motors.

He said many of his cars have encountered the mess and described the problem as an “expense” and an inconvenience.”

Graham Essenhigh, whose video production firm Bubble Productions is also in the Burcott Business Park, had heard that “air bombs” - a type of firework that explodes in mid-air with a loud bang, had been placed on a roof to try and scare away the birds.

Problems with gulls should be nipped in the bud not when the gulls are flying the nest like they now have in Burcott Rd.

They're a flipping pest...I'm in Tupsley and they've just twigged it's bin day on a Wednesday and I've caught them trying to get in the bags. Can't believe they're on the Protected list still considering the nuisance they cause.

We're onto something here.Lets go all the way.No more talking. Kill the lot of them and when we're done killing the gulls, lets fix our focus and anger onto all those other wonderful species that walk, crawl, swim or fly. Any creature that upsets the natural order of our mundane lifestyle should be targetted for destruction. What about Sparrows?

Hello Herefordian, No my friend, I can honestly report that no creature, winged or otherwise has emptied it's bowells upon my head and frankly, if it did happen, considering my support for the gull community and other members of the animal kingdom, I'b be very hurt, disappointed and personally let down by said Gull. My warmest regards.

I would not go as far as executing any gull but the quick removal of their eggs and proper neting, spiking of areas where they do cause a nuisance would help.
