WASPS caused the biggest buzz for pest control experts in Herefordshire this year.

Herefordshire Council environmental teams dealt with 2,316 pest problems from mice, rats, wasps, bedbugs and birds in the last year according to a national survey by the British Pest Control Association.

But wasps caused the biggest problem with 1,378 call outs required, ranking 14th nationwide.

There were also a total of 439 calls over the period to alleviate problems with rats, 98 for mice and 15 to deal with bedbugs.

The figures rank Herefordshire as the 104th highest out of 314 English local authorities for pest control call-outs.

In all fairness, I saw a few wasps earlier in the season but I haven't seen any since. We did have a small nest in the shed back in June but I nuked it with a can of hairspray and a lighter. Probably not the wisest move but it got rid of them! I'm sure we'll see more towards the end of the month when the fruit starts dropping.

I've never met a wasp I liked. Horrid little things. If I am successful in becoming Chief Executive of Hereford Council my first pledge to the great Hereford public would be to destroy every wasp I ever encountered.
