A49 work to begin next week
WORK to resurface a 1.5mile stretch of road along the A49 will begin next week.
The Highways Agency will start working on the road in both directions between Moreton-on-Lugg and Wellington on Wednesday August 1, and aim to complete it in eight weeks.
Work to resurface and possibly widen the existing footpath alongside the carriageway will also take place.
All work will be done between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption to road users, although the road will be closed overnight in both directions between Hereford and the junction with the A417 at Hope under Dinmore.
Diversion routes are available, with southbound traffic redirected eastwards using the A417 towards the signalised junction at Newtown, with traffic then being directed onto the A4103 towards the roundabout junction with the A49 at Hereford.
Northbound will traffic will be redirected on to the A4103 from the roundabout junction with the A49 and sent across Hereford onto the A417 at Newtown. After being directed left at the signalised junction, all traffic will re-join the A49.
Laura Mobley, Highways Agency project manager, said: "This work is necessary to prolong the life of this important road and improve safety for drivers. During the works we advise road users to plan their journeys to avoid delays.
" Safety is our top priority and for the safety of road users and roadworkers we encourage all drivers to drive carefully past the works and along the diversion routes, keeping within the speed limit, and concentrating on the road ahead."
