Incinerator can be built to deal with Herefordshire's waste

A CONTROVERSIAL incinerator can be built to deal with Herefordshire's waste, the government has announced.
The £120 million Hartlebury Incinerator has received final permission to be built in Worcestershire from Eric Pickles, the secretary of state for Communities and Local Government.
Opponents say the incinerator's environmental credentials did not stack up and were concerned anout traffic, noise and air pollution.
But Mercia Waste Management, the firm behind the bid, said the enivronmental credentials of the facility were strong, adding it could produce energy electricity for 20,000 homes, burning 200,000 tonnes of rubbish a year.
Worcestershire County Council had already unanimously backed the inicnerator plan at a meeting last year, not least because of the spiralling cost being levied on putting residents' waste into landfill sites, like Throckmorton, near Evesham.
