SYMONDS Yat soldier Warrant Officer Class Two Leonard Thomas was repatriated at RAF Brize Norton today.
The 44-year-old - along with two other soliders - was shot dead by rogue police officer while serving in Afghanistan.
He was taking part in his last operational tour, having joined the Army in 1986, and had served in Kuwait, Iraq and Northern Ireland.
WO2 Thomas, who grew up in Cornwall and was known as Pez, leaves his mother Sylvia and younger brother Tristan, as well as his long-term partner Sergeant Rachel Prosser.
They said that he was a "military man through and through."
