A storm over the proposed Reeves Hill wind farm is raging on the Herefordshire border.

Less than a week after 40 residents signed a petition in support of the four-turbine wind farm near Presteigne, 355 residents have voiced their opposition in a survey.

In a survey carried out by Stonewall Hill Conservation Group (SHCG) 355 residents said they did not want the development, while 24 said they did.

Herefordshire Council had already granted Bolsterstone Innovative Energy permission to site four turbines on top of Reeves Hill last September.

But the wind farm cannot be built until Powys County Council grants permission for an access road.

The Welsh council’s public consultation into the plan ended on Juen 22.

SHCG was founded to stop development in the area and protect ancient landscape.

On the other side are supporters of the wind farm who claim the turbines will bring local jobs and renewable energy.

In a poll on herefordtimes.com, 199 (55 per cent) readers said they would like to see a wind farm on Reeves Hill and 156 said they would not.

Eight people (two per cent) said they would like to see the wind farm in another location.

At its meeting on June 20, Presteigne and Norton Town Council voted to oppose the access road plan.

It is now up to Powys to decide if it can go ahead.
