10:30am Thursday 21st June 2012 in News
GLOW, Herefordshire’s biggest and boldest Cultural Olympiad event, promises a fabulous family day out, one of the best in the county this summer. And it all takes place on Castle Green in the heart of Hereford on Saturday, June 30.
An unforgettable celebratory dance experience, GLOW will be a mesmerising mix of a festival style afternoon giving way to a stunning dance spectacular and an unmissable torch-lit finale and dazzling firework display by The World Famous, creative pyrotechnicians with a passion for playing with fire.
Get your dancing shoes on for dance of all sorts - dance to watch and dance to ... dance. Kicking off with an afternoon fairly fizzing with every style of dance imaginable - tea dances, a ballroom blitz, dance films, incluindg some of the world’s best short dance films, performances and demos by dancers from the professional dance world, schools, youth dance groups and private dance schools on all six stages.
There’ll also be the excitement of a break dance battle, featuring some of the UK’s best dancers including Plague Dance Crew’s Brook and Roxy from Street Dance 3D the movie.
In the evening the dance gets hotter still with the final event featuring 2Faced Dance Company performing their five-star critically acclaimed touring piece, In The Dust - currently on tour around Europe - with a special collaboration with 2Faced Youth Dance Company.
GLOW offers the full family festival vibe, with live music, DJs, a silent disco and ceilidh and plenty of food stalls throughout the event, there’s plenty of opportunity to sit back, enjoy the tunes, watch the dance and soak up the atmosphere.
And even when the sun’s gone down, there’s the chance to party on into Sunday with the silent disco - with wireless headphones providing your own personal soundtrack.
The family friendly festival is the culmination of hr1, a two-year project in which 2Faced, Herefordshire’s only professional dance company, worked with more than 40 professional artists, 17,500 audience members, 3,800 people as community performers or participants and 19 private dance schools across the country. hr1 is part of Dancing for the Games, inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands. It has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands.
“GLOW is for everyone,” says Dan Lowenstein of 2Faced. “With dance to watch, or dance to get involved in, great food and drink on offer all day, and a few surprises, it’s got something for every member of the family. You'll see something fresh and new and never seen before seen in Herefordshire. With acts from around the UK ready to entertain you, GLOW Dance Festival will definitely leave a lasting impression.”
