Cash strapped Hereford County Hospital could run out of money
Hereford County Hospital has only a month’s worth of “working” money left and is in serious danger of losing key services or even its present status, Whitehall will hear this week.
County MPs Jesse Norman and Bill Wiggin are going straight to Secretary of State for Health Andrew Lansley with their fears for the hospital’s future and stressing its need for a new direction.
Wye Valley Health Trust (WVT) – responsible for the hospital – now has a £9.5 million budget deficit, down from £15 million only on the assumption that £5.5m of savings can be found this coming year.
"It would be catastrophic should key services be lost or the hospital merged with another under a cost-cutting agenda, ” said Jesse Norman, MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire.
