HMS Ledbury destroys Second World War mine

HMS Ledbury has destroyed a Second World War mine off the coast of Sardinia.
The Royal Navy warship, named after the Herefordshire market town, was carrying out Nato anti-mine exercises in the Mediterranean when the 70-year-old device was spotted on the ship's sonar at a depth of 141 feet.
It was conformed that it was a German mine measuring five feet in diameter and it would have contained 739lb of explosives.
Ledbury’s dive team then placed 4lb packs of plastic explosives on the mine to detonate.
When the ship is not on duty, it is based in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
