A breast cancer survivor from Hereford has been invited to start this year’s Race for Life.
Jane Burton first took part in the women-only fun run event three years ago in memory of her dad who died of pancreatic cancer in 2009. A year later she received news she too had cancer.
Within weeks of undergoing treatment Jane took part in her second Race for Life, spurred on by her daughter and colleagues from Tesco in Belmont.
She vowed to do it every year but due to treatment missed 2011’s race and will be unable to take part in this year’s event on July 15 at Hereford Racecourse.
Instead Jane has been invited to sound the starting horn before 2,300 women walk, jog or run the five kilometre course.
A total of 2,300 women took part in the Hereford event last year and raised £129,000.
To take part this time, visit raceforlife.org or call 0871 6411111.
