Herefordshire fuel thefts - arrest made

11:54am Friday 4th May 2012

POLICE investigating decade-long fuel thefts in Herefordshire have made an arrest.

A 56-year-old man was arrested overnight in the Chepstow area by officers investigating the thefts which have been going on for more than a decade.

He is currently in custody in Newport.

“The man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and officers from Herefordshire will be travelling down to Newport to speak to him later today,” said Inspector Neil Whitchurch.

“Searches are being carried out at the man’s home address and it is likely these searches will carry on for much of the day.

“This arrest has come about as a result of information passed on by the public and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has come forward and offered us information to aid our investigation.”

Meanwhile, police in the county have also arrested two men in Leominster and Tenbury Wells in relation to fuel thefts, completely unconnected to the man arrested in Chepstow.
