A planning specialist has backed the bids of Hereford, Leominster, Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye as they aim to become Portas Pilot Towns.
The Government has accepted retail guru Mary Portas’s recommendations on how to revitalise high streets, which will lead to 12 towns being awarded up to £100,000.
James Edwards from real estate advisory organisation Colliers International believes the county’s four contenders have a good chance of winning the cash.
He said: "Town centres such as Leominster and Ledbury have a wealth of services, facilities and commercial enterprises, more often than not small independent businesses.
"It is essential that these businesses have a collective voice that looks after the fundamental interests of the town to create a vibrant and prosperous centre that serves the rural hinterland."
