Drug smuggler found in Herefordshire after 15 years on the run

A convicted drug smuggler who went on the run for 15 years has been found hiding out in Herefordshire.

John Price, 72, was arrested at a cottage in Clyro, near Hay-on-Wye, more than a decade after being found guilty of smuggling.

Price, from Kent, was arrested in 1995 when customs found 10,000 ecstasy tablets, then worth £150,000, in his vehicle at Dover’s Eastern Docks.

Price fled his trial at Canterbury Crown Court in April 1997 but was convicted in his absence and sentenced to a 12-year jail term.

This week, after being found hiding near the Herefordshire border, Price was jailed to servce the original sentence plus six months for failing to turn up at court 15 years ago.
